Iconic Scottsdale Fashion Square near Coco Farm


  A childhood memories of Lisa Cox ears Bakery Coco, near Scottsdale Fashion Square on Sunday for a piece of cake.

The restaurant was opened in 1966, when Fashion Square was a three-storey outdoor structure through a department store and supermarket anchored. The restaurant was recently closed with the expiration of his lease.

Ear-Cox, born in Scottsdale noticed the restaurant had just closed, as they drove by.

"I'm really sad it's closed," she said. "It was a milestone in Scottsdale since I was a kid. It's kind of the end of an era. It opened three years before my birth."

The restaurant, at 4700 N. Scottsdale Road is located, was one of the oldest Coco everywhere, says Jim Kensinger, executive vice president of operations for the Catalina Restaurant Group, which included the Scottsdale Coco. He said only one other restaurant Coco's in Corona del Mar, California, opened for longer.

"We will miss the many loyal guests, we have served over the years. Many guests were part of the family of Coco," he said.

The property is located in the Coco was one of Macerich, which owns the place of fashion. There are no current plans for the property, said Steve Helm, assistant vice president of the Fashion Square Property Management.

"We will have to do with an enclosed building for some time," he said. "Coco is back for many years with the mall, and we are sorry to see her go."

All employees have been in other parts of the Coco placed, Kensinger said.

There are no plans to close another Coco in Arizona, he said. There's a lot more of Coco in the valley, but not in Scottsdale.

According to the website of Coco, the first restaurant opened in 1948 in Orange County, California, there are over 110 restaurants in the western United States.

Ear-Cox said he was sad to see that companies like old downtown Coco holiday.

"The signs of origin should, I think will remain," she said. "Otherwise, we will completely change downtown Scottsdale is."
